Deadline to buy riverboat is Sunday

Time is just about up for the Pride of Newport, the riverboat that was home to the Newport Harbor Nautical Museum.

Sunday is the deadline for finding a buyer, and if no one steps onboard with a hard and fast offer, the boat will be scrapped.

The museum’s executive director, David Muller, said there are no formal plans yet for the boat’s launch from the dock, where it’s been kept since the 1960s, but if the “proverbial white knight” doesn’t come, they will move the boat and restore the dock to its original condition.

And the sooner the better. Muller is still writing checks for rent, although the museum is closed on the boat.

There is still a restaurant and lounge hosting soirees.
