Three South County men were booked on $25,000 bail early Saturday after Costa Mesa police pulled them over and found reportedly stolen property in their car. The car the three men were in had also been reported as stolen, Costa Mesa Police Lt. Dale Birney said.

Francisco Lagunas, 21, and Muro Gonzalez, 23, both of Aliso Viejo, and Laguna Hills resident Enrique Fiqueiros, 18, were arrested on suspicion of burglary and auto theft just before 1 a.m. Saturday.

The suspects reportedly attempted to avoid contact with the police but eventually were pulled over in the parking lot behind Borders bookstore at 19th Street and Newport Boulevard, Birney said.

Upon contact, Costa Mesa police found a wallet and cash that did not belong to the three men. The property had been reported stolen out of a 2004 Nissan in the 400 block of West Coast Highway in Newport Beach, Newport Beach Police Lt. Bill Hartford said.

The late 1980s model Toyota Camry was listed stolen by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Birney said.

The wallet, identification and cash was identified and returned to its owner Saturday, Hartford said.
