Newport Harbor 2,NEWPORT BEACH — Junior Emily Ohlhaver scored two goals, one in each half, leading the Sailors to a Sunset League victory on Tuesday at Newport Harbor High.

Newport Coach Josh Brooks said defender Carly Ruiz played well for the Sailors (6-6-2, 1-1 in league), while Gillan Hogan and Alexis Conley made good runs off the ball.

Stephanie Castor added eight saves for Newport Harbor, which plays at Esperanza on Thursday.

Beckman 3, Corona del Mar 0IRVINE — The Sea Kings fell in their Pacific Coast League opener at Beckman Tuesday, in what CdM Coach Bryan Middleton called, “a game of mishaps.”

Beckman (9-5, 1-0 in league) scored all three of its goals in the first half, on a breakaway goal, a bad CdM pass and a penalty kick. The Sea Kings (3-6-4, 0-1) had second-half goals by seniors Kaleigh Trider and Alex Tobiessen negated because of violations.

Freshman Corey Cano had four saves for the Sea Kings, who play host to Laguna Hills Thursday.

St. Margaret’s 2, Sage Hill 1 OTSAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — The Tartans scored in the final three minutes of the second 20-minute overtime to win the Academy League contest Tuesday.

Senior Kara Percival scored the equalizer late in the first half for the Lightning (4-7-2, 1-1 in league).

Freshman Hannah MacLeod made nine saves.

WRESTLING

Newport Harbor 48, Gahr 30CERRITOS — Grant McKee (103-pound division) recorded the fastest pin of the night (51 seconds) and was one of six Sailors who earned a fall in the nonleague win Tuesday.

Nick Bernstein (119), Josh George (135), Eric Nordstrom (145), Edgar Guadarrama and Brian Beaudette (275) also recorded pins for Newport Harbor (9-5).

The Sailors return to Sunset League action Thursday at 5 p.m., when they play host to Esperanza.

Beckman 61, Corona del Mar 8CORONA DEL MAR — Josh Hughes (135-pound division) and Kendall Pick (189) won in their respective weight classes for the Sea Kings in their Pacific Coast League opener Tuesday.

Hughes scored an 18-6 win and Pick earned a 14-6 victory.

CdM will wrestle at Laguna Hills on Thursday at 6 p.m.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Sage Hill 42, St. Margaret’s 41SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — Senior Kaitlin Tyre scored 13 points and grabbed 16 rebounds and junior Katie McKeon had 10 points, five rebounds and five assists to help the Lightning edge their Academy League rival Tuesday.

Sophomore Tierney Danner added 11 points for Sage Hill which improved to 1-1 in league.
