Man at large after bank robbery
A man who robbed a Union Bank at the Westcliff Plaza shopping center in Newport Beach remained at large Wednesday.
At about 5 p.m. Tuesday, the man handed a teller a note threatening that he had a handgun, Newport Beach Police Sgt. Evan Sailor said. The teller gave the man money in a yellow manila folder, and the robber left on foot. Police did not release the amount of money stolen.
Police say the man also robbed a First Bank at 3001 Harbor Boulevard in Costa Mesa on Dec. 27.
The robber is described as white or Latino with short, light-brown hair; 5-feet, 9-inches tall; chubby or heavyset; wearing a dark gray hooded sweatshirt; and a dark brown hat with a beige emblem.
