Light rain through this afternoon

A cold front moving through Orange County brought trace amounts of rain to Newport-Mesa on Wednesday, but the National Weather Service predicts it is only a brief reprieve from a very dry week.

Light showers are expected to continue through the afternoon today, but humidity will plummet again, agency forecaster Noel Isla said.

“We have a pretty dry atmosphere after the winds last weekend,” he said. “Behind this cold front we’re expecting Santa Ana [wind] conditions.”

Temperatures will not be affected by the humidity change, and forecasters do not expect the frigid lows of the weekend to return. Lows both tonight and for the next few days will be in the 30s but above freezing. High temperatures will stay in the 60s.

Trace amounts of rain were measured throughout the coastal part of Orange County on Wednesday, Isla said. There is a possibility of isolated thunderstorms today.

Waves are expected to be relatively low today and tomorrow, 2- to 4-feet high, Isla said.
