Portfolio reviews at open house

The Laguna College of Art & Design, 2222 Laguna Canyon Road, will host an open house and portfolio review day on Feb. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free parking is available; light refreshments will be served.

Prospective students will meet with admissions staff and faculty, and participate in a series of workshops on admissions, portfolio advising, federal and state aid, and scholarships. Guided tours will also be available.

The students will also have an opportunity to present their portfolio to experienced college representatives, who will review and critique their work, as well as offer guidance and direction.

The event is open to all prospective students, parents, teachers, counselors and guests.

The schedule is as follows: 10 a.m. registration and campus tours; 11 a.m. admissions and portfolio advising; noon financial aid and scholarship workshop; 1 p.m. graphic design multimedia presentation; 2 p.m. fine arts, illustration and animation presentation.

Red Cross blood drive at college

Laguna College of Art & Design will sponsor a Red Cross blood drive on Jan. 31 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the campus, 2222 Laguna Canyon Road.

Library hosts party for Groundhog Day

Children aged five to 12 are invited to the Laguna Beach Library’s Groundhog Day party from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m., Jan. 31.

Kids will create groundhog masks, play games and eat “dirt pie.” Parents are requested to call the library to reserve a spot for their children at (949) 497-1733.

The library is located at 363 Glenneyre St., Laguna Beach.

Exchange group seeks volunteers

ASSE International Student Exchange Programs, which provides academic year, semester and short-term exchange programs in the U.S. for high school-aged students, is looking for volunteers to serve as area representatives.

Area representatives recruit and screen prospective host families, interview students to study abroad, and supervise the visiting exchange students in their community. They are reimbursed for their expenses, and are provided with some travel opportunities.

The western office of the organization is located in Laguna Beach.
