Orange Coast 73, Saddleback 66COSTA MESA — Courtney Ford and Erin Barney scored four points apiece to spark a 10-1 second-half run that helped the Pirates rally from a 42-40 deficit in Orange Empire Conference action Friday at OCC.

The 10-1 spurt, spanning five minutes, put the hosts (20-3, 6-0 in conference), ranked No. 6 in the state and No. 3 in Southern California, ahead, 50-43, with 12:43 left.

Saddleback (14-6, 3-3) never got closer than four points the rest of the way.

Lindsey Allen came off the bench to make seven of 10 field-goal attempts to pace the Pirates with 14 points.

Ford (11), Brittany Taylor (10) and Rachael Maulit (10) also scored in double figures for OCC.

The Pirates have won nine straight for the second time this season and have won 18 of their last 19. They return to action Wednesday at Riverside.

Cassie Klockgether had 19 points, while Rekeshia Jones had 13 points and 13 rebounds for the visitors.

Saddleback 75, Orange Coast 61COSTA MESA — The Orange Empire Conference-leading Gauchos shot 61.4% to hand the host Pirates their second straight conference loss Friday night.

Temaine Ford made nine of 10 field-goal tries to pace the winners (18-5, 5-0 in conference), ranked No. 10 in the state and No. 6 in Southern California, with 24 points. He added nine rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Josh Poitevin was four of six from three-point range to pace the Pirates with 12 points off the bench.

Costa Mesa High product Brian Molina and Shaun Engle had 10 points apiece for OCC, which fell to 12-11, 3-2.

Molina and Mario Caetano had four assists apiece for the Pirates, who were outrebounded, 36-25.

UCLA 7, UC Irvine 0LOS ANGELES — The No. 4-ranked Bruins spoiled the debut of UC Irvine Coach Trevor Kronemann by dominating at the nonconference match Thursday at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.

UCI’s Zac Tsai came closest to victory, dropping his No. 5 singles set, 7-6, 6-3, to Jeremy Drean.

UCI’s Shempei Suzuki won six games at No. 2 singles.
