MEN’S BASKETBALL

Vanguard 64, Biola 63LA MIRADA — Dennis Heenan, a Newport Harbor High product, scored 13 points to help lead the Lions to the Golden State Athletic Conference win Saturday.

Brandon Henderson and Kevin Dalafu added 12 points each for Vanguard (5-13, 2-7 in conference).

Dalafu hit two free throws with four seconds left to secure the win. Biola’s Solomon Mercado, who scored 16 points, knocked down a three-pointer with two seconds remaining for the game’s final points.

Vanguard 98, Biola 72LA MIRADA — Senior Lacey Burns was five for five from three-point range and junior Melissa Cook made four of five three-point tries to help the No. 1-ranked Lions earn their 47th straight Golden State Athletic Conference win Saturday.

Jessica Richter added four three-pointers for the visitors, who made 14 of 26 from threedom (52.9%).

Richter led the winners with 26 points and was one of seven Lions to record at least one assist.

Cook finished with 18 points and Burns added 17.

Senior center Rachel Besse came off the bench to record 15 points and a team-high five rebounds, while Kelly Schmidt had 11 points.

The Lions improved to 14-0, 9-0 in conference), while Biola fell to 7-10, 3-6.

Stephanie Duda produced a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds for UC Irvine (5-15, 2-4 in conference). Annie Mai finished with 12 points for the Anteaters.

Toni Thomas led the Titans (9-11, 4-3) with 29 points. Fullerton’s Charlee Underwood added 14 points, 19 rebounds and three blocked shots.
