Junior Tennis returns to Laguna Beach

The Laguna Beach Junior Tennis Challenger Series returns for play from 2 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday and again on Feb. 25.

The series is open to novice and advanced players ages eight to 16 who wish to rack up points in singles round-robin play.

The cost is $25 per player. Registration for both series dates can be obtained through the Laguna Beach Community Services Dept.

The series is presented by All Court Tennis coached by Julie Heussenstamm of the United States Professinals Tennis Assn.

Breakers seek alumni baseball players

Laguna Beach High will host its alumni baseball game on Feb. 17, Breakers Coach Dave Dopf has announced.

Dopf is looking to add more alumni players to the roster for the game. Interested players can contact him at (949) 291-6647.

City tennis tournament to hold 50th event

The Laguna Beach Tennis Tournament will celebrate its 50th year of competition with tournament play set for the weekends of April 21-22 and 28-29. Events include men’s and women’s singles, doubles and mixed 2.0 through Open play. A Youth/Experience doubles event that will pair a young player with an adult, also will be held.

Tennis programs underway

All Court Tennis currently is offering Junior tennis programs. Lessons are available to beginners through competition players and new to the program this year is a 2 p.m. class for Kindergarten-aged youth.

Evening classes for Cardio Tennis also are underway. Participants will experience and energized cardio workout while benefiting from drill practice.

Junior Team Tennis is also available for local youth. The program is open to intermediate and advanced teams in the 12- and 14-and-Under divisions.

Team workouts will incorporate intensive physical training and match play.
