The 24-hour Relay for Life will be held May 19 and 20 at Newport Harbor High School.

LIONS IN SERVICE

Harbor Mesa Lions Club members worked at the recent fundraiser for 9-year-old Anthony Marco Perez, an Adams Elementary School student who died of an inoperable brain tumor Wednesday. After being contacted by Angel’s Charity founder Doug Hansen, Harbor Mesa Lions Lynn Seaholm, Lou Bolick Taylor, Ann Iverson, Eunice Thomason, Kathy Waters and Geri Reno assisted with food sales at the event that raised $17,000.

“Our members are always there for helping and contributing to any worthy cause,” said Lions spokeswoman Lynn Seaholm, “even though that same day, many of the same people worked selling ice cream at the Orange County Marketplace to raise money for our club to donate to organizations in the community.” Other members who worked at the ice cream sales were Lions Maureen Coffey, Jennifer Kelder, Eileen Jensen, Betty Gomez, Gina Stansbury, Gloria Kimmel, Jeanne Samoszuk, Ann McIlroy and Mike McIlroy, who is president of the Costa Mesa Newport Harbor Lions Club. The event raised $600.

INTERFAITH ON UCI CAMPUS

The Feb. 21 luncheon meeting of the Newport-Mesa-Irvine Interfaith Council will focus on Interfaith at UCI with a panel discussion by four students who will address the importance of interfaith on campus, according to Greg Kelly, council vice president and program chairman.

The student panel will consist of representatives of the Bahai, Muslim, Mormon and Roman Catholic faiths according to John Stupar, president of the UCI Interfaith board of directors. UCI is the only campus in the University of California system that has an on-campus interfaith center.

The meeting is open to the public and will be held at University United Methodist Church, 18422 Culver Drive, Irvine. The meeting, which includes lunch at noon, will begin with a reception at 11:45 a.m. and end at 1:30 p.m. The cost is $7.50 per person, including lunch. Make reservations by Feb. 19 https://nmiinterfaith@aol .com or (714) 921-8665.
