LIONS’ RICHTER LAUDED

Vanguard University junior Jessica Richter, who led the Lions’ women’s basketball team to a pair of victories last week, has been named Golden State Athletic Conference Player of the Week.

Richter, a first-team All-American as a sophomore transfer from Syracuse, posted a combined 49 points, 13 rebounds, nine steals and four assists in wins over Point Loma Nazarene (Jan. 16), and Biola (Jan. 20).

She had 23 points, 10 rebounds and five steals in the 69-56 home win over Point Loma, which was then 7-0 in conference.

Richter, a 5-foot-10 guard, had 26 points in the 98-72 road triumph over Biola.

Vanguard (15-0, 10-0 in conference), ranked No. 1 in NAIA Division I, has won 49 straight regular-season games.

HALL OF FAME INDUCTION

The California Sports Hall of Fame will induct its first annual Hall of Fame class today at the induction dinner at the Anaheim Hilton at 5 p.m.

There will be 20 honorees highlighted by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Marcus Allen and Jackie Robinson. Tickets are $500. For more information visit www.californiasportshalloffame.org.

The California Sports Hall of Fame is located in Rancho Cucamonga. There are plans to build a California Sports Museum in Irvine.

The rest of the honorees include: Elgin Baylor, Wilt Chamberlain, Eric Dickerso, Tom Flores, Chick Hearn, Reggie Jackson, Magic Johnson, Rafer Johnson, Deacon Jones, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Tommy Lasorda, Bob Mathias, Jim Plunkett, Bill Walsh, Jerry West, Kellen Winslow and John Wooden.

The CSHF was founded by former Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro running back Christian Okoye.
