Newport Harbor 3,FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Freshman Gillan Hogan scored twice in the second half, and senior Arielle Rockwell added a Sailors goal in their Sunset League victory Tuesday.

Stephanie Castor had four saves for the Sailors (9-8-1, 4-3 in league). Newport plays host to first-place Esperanza on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Laguna Hills 2, Corona del Mar 1CORONA DEL MAR — Hayley Raguse scored for a 1-1 tie in the 65th minute, but the Hawks scored on a penalty kick in the 78th in a Pacific Coast League game Tuesday.

CdM Coach Bryan Middleton said it was a controversial call in the 78th minute that kept the Sea Kings (4-9-5, 1-4-1 in league) from going into overtime. Middleton said the call was made far from the 18-yard box, nearly out of bounds, where a CdM player apparently took down a Laguna Hills player.

“[The Laguna Hills player] tripped over her own feet and fell onto my player,” Middleton said.
