GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Corona del Mar 18, University 5IRVINE — The Sea Kings clinched their eighth consecutive Pacific Coast League championship with an easy win Wednesday at University High in their league finale.

Seniors Katie Indvik and Haley Prickett each scored three goals, and Victoria Kennedy, Paige O’Brien, Sarah Hutchison and Taylor Harkins all scored twice for CdM (15-5, 4-0 in league).

Kate Murphy had six saves and Kate Baldoni added seven for CdM, which plays Capistrano Valley today at 3 p.m. at CdM in the first round of the Irvine Southern California Championships.

The Lightning improved to 10-6, 2-3 in league. Costa Mesa dropped to 12-11, 3-2 in league.

Newport Harbor 12, Marina 4NEWPORT BEACH — Mimi Bury scored four goals, and the Sailors clinched at least a share of the Sunset League title with their win Wednesday at Newport Harbor High.

Jillian Chiapuzio and Kaleigh Gilchrist each scored twice for Newport Harbor (14-7, 4-0 in league). Sarah Roberts added a goal, three assists and three steals for the Sailors, who built a 7-0 halftime lead.

Newport Harbor plays Canyon today at 3 p.m. at El Toro High in the opening round of the Irvine Southern California Championships.

Laguna Beach 20, Estancia 6LAGUNA BEACH — Senior Melissa Buchmann scored three goals for the Eagles in an Orange Coast League loss at Laguna Beach, ranked No. 3 in CIF Southern Section Division II, on Wednesday.

Amber Peters, Shea Kopp and Meagan Kunert all added goals for Estancia (12-11, 0-5 in league).

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Sage Hill 2, JSerra 1NEWPORT COAST — Kara Percival connected on a penalty kick and scored the game-winner on a direct free kick in the 64th minute, leading the Lightning to a win over JSerra, a CIF Southern Section Division I school.

Sage Hill (8-7-2), which is a Division VI school, received a solid performance out of goalkeeper Hannah Macleod. She made six saves for the Lightning, who play their last regular-season match today against Academy League foe Whitney at 3:15 p.m.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Newport Harbor 2,NEWPORT BEACH — Garrett Heiser and Brian Siemonsma scored for the Sailors in their Sunset League win Wednesday.

Morgan Webster and Chris Solis earned assists for the Sailors (10-6-4, 4-2-2 in league).

Laguna Hills 4,CORONA DEL MAR — The Sea Kings gave up two goals in the second 10-minute overtime period, falling at home Wednesday in a Pacific Coast League game.

Corona del Mar 2 (OT)

After falling behind, 2-0, at halftime, Corona del Mar (5-11-2, 3-3 in league) had rallied to tie the score after a penalty-kick goal from Brian Burke in the 48th minute and Paolo Iaccarino’s header goal on Burke’s pass in the 54th minute.

Aman Sahni made three saves and Jonathan Hange had four for CdM, which plays at Irvine on Friday in a key game that will keep the winner’s CIF Southern Section Division II playoff hopes alive.

WRESTLING

Fountain Valley 37,NEWPORT BEACH — Fountain Valley earned a pin in the last match of the night, erasing a five-point Sailors’ lead in a Sunset League dual meet Wednesday.

Newport Harbor 36

Eddie Garcia earned a major decision over David Hopkins at 112 pounds for Newport Harbor (9-9, 0-5 in league), and Dylan Morales won a 7-5 decision over Peter Serra at 119 pounds. Josh George earned a technical fall against John Do at 140 pounds and Bruce Hartshorn (189s) earned a fall at 3:29 over Ben Nguyen.

Cameron Rausch (215) and Brian Beaudette (275) also recorded pins for the Sailors, with Beaudette pinning Brian Yun at 1:33.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Laguna Hills 61,CORONA DEL MAR — Junior guard Ashley Kirby had a team-high 12 points, but the Sea Kings fell at home Wednesday in a Pacific Coast League game.

Sami Stern had six points for CdM (9-15, 2-4 in league) against Laguna Hills, the top-ranked team in CIF Southern Section Division IV-A.
