Costa Mesa 75, Laguna Beach 38COSTA MESA — Center Jasmine Werdel scored a season-high 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Mustangs Friday night into a first-place tie in the Orange Coast League with Calvary Chapel.

The Mustangs (15-10, 6-1 in league) play for the league title Monday at 6 p.m. at Calvary Chapel, which is 6-1 in league. The Mustangs look to win their first league crown since 1998.

Costa Mesa’s Jennifer Courtney finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Denise Rosello added 11 points.

Laguna Beach 63, Costa Mesa 56COSTA MESA — On senior night, senior Moses Titus hit seven three-pointers to finish with 25 points, but the Mustangs on Friday fell out of first place in the Orange Coast League.

The Mustangs (16-8, 4-3 in league) trail Laguna Beach and Calvary Chapel, both are tied for first in league at 5-2.

Larry Puente added 13 points for Mesa, which plays at Calvary Chapel Monday at 7:30 p.m.

In center Kyle Caldwell’s second game back for Newport Harbor after a foot injury, the junior finished with nine points. The Sailors (13-8, 4-4 in league) are tied for second place in league with Marina (4-4 in league).

Ben Capaldi contributed one assist for Sage (12-0-2, 8-0 in league), which will play Tuesday at Capistrano Valley Christian at 3 p.m.

Corona del Mar 1, Irvine 0IRVINE — Senior Brian Burke scored on a penalty kick in the 70th minute for the Sea Kings in their Pacific Coast League win Friday.

CdM sophomore Brian Yasukochi drew the penalty after being tackled from behind on a breakaway.

Senior goalie Aman Sahni recorded five saves for the Sea Kings (6-11-2, 4-3 in league).

Costa Mesa 1, Laguna Beach 1COSTA MESA — John Zapata scored for the Mustangs in their Orange Coast League tie Friday.

Costa Mesa (3-10-3, 2-4-1 in league) plays against Calvary Chapel at Orange Coast College Monday at 3 p.m.

Newport Harbor 2, Esperanza 0ANAHEIM — Sailors Coach Ryan Hernandez said Ulises Vega and Danny Gonzalez played great, but Newport still dropped its Sunset League game Friday.

Esperanza scored in each half to send the Sailors to 10-7-4, 4-3-3 in league, making them the third-place team in the Sunset.
