Police said the man had possibly been in a bicycle accident, but coroners did not find evidence to support that.

No further details were available Saturday surrounding the possible accident. Traffic investigators are expected to finish the report Monday, Newport Beach Police Sgt. Jeff Brouwer said.

Knife-wielding man on bus being held at jail

A Santa Ana man was still being held at Orange County Jail Saturday after he reportedly was arrested Thursday night on suspicion of making terrorist threats, threatening somebody with bodily harm, Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Ted Boyne said Saturday.

Clayton Covey, 40, was arrested after he brandished a knife on a Orange County Transit Authority bus near Orange Coast College around 8 p.m. Thursday.

A verbal argument between two passengers broke out on the bus when it was near Fairview Drive and Adams Avenue, and when Covey took out a knife, bus driver Gus Carugatti called OCTA’s central communications office in Santa Ana, and transit police and sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene. Sheriff’s deputies arrived just after 8 p.m., detained Covey and took him to Orange County Jail, where he remained Saturday, Boyne said. No one was injured.

“We’re thankful for [the bus driver’s] good handling of the situation, and there were no injuries,” OCTA spokeswoman Andrea West said. “He followed protocol just like he should have.”

Covey is being held on $50,000 bail in the jail’s Intake Release Center in Santa Ana, according to Orange County Jail inmate records. He is schedule to appear in court Monday.
