‘EATERS’ YOVAN LAUDED

UC Irvine senior Aaron Yovan, who transferred to the school from UCLA, was named Big West Conference Athlete of the Week in men’s tennis.

Yovan posted a 7-5, 6-4 win over Brigham Young’s James Ludlow at No. 1 singles in UCI’s 4-3 nonconference triumph Jan. 25.

Yovan also teamed with senior Mustafa Ulukan at No. 1 doubles to post a 9-7 win over Ludlow and Dominik Kaufhord.

Ludlow and Kaufhold are the No. 2-ranked doubles team in the Mountain Region.

UCI’S BERNHARD HONORED

UC Irvine junior Becky Bernhard was named Big West Conference Athlete of the Week in women’s tennis after a pair of wins at No. 1 singles against Pepperdine and San Francisco.

Bernhard beat Pepperdine’s Bianca Dulgheru, ranked No. 22 in the FILA Collegiate rankings, 6-1, 6-3, Jan. 26.

The next day, she downed USF’s Camille Pamart, 6-0, 7-6, in UCI’s 7-0 win.
