Sage Hill 3,SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — Sophomore Michael Bear scored two goals, as the Lightning clinched their first outright Academy League title.

Sage Hill (13-0-2, 9-0), the No. 2-ranked team in CIF Southern Section Division VI, posted its 14th shutout of the season.

Sophomore Bayle Smith also scored and senior Conrad Whitaker had two assists and junior Beau Caillouette had one assist. Freshman Jake Blitzer made three saves in the second half.

Corona del Mar 2, University 1IRVINE — Jon Udahsev had a goal and an assist for the Sea Kings, who finished their regular season with a Pacific Coast League win Tuesday at University High.

University scored the game’s first goal, but Udahsev scored in the 25th minute for CdM (7-11-2, 5-3 in league). Then, right before halftime, his corner kick set up Brian Burke’s goal.

Jonathan Hange had six saves for the Sea Kings, and Coach Pat Callaghan said defenders Miles Kellerman and Jaffer Kattan also played well. CdM, which will likely finish second place in league, now prepares for the CIF Southern Section Division III playoffs, which begin Feb. 17.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Corona del Mar 69, University 50IRVINE — Junior Stefan Kaluz scored 31 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to lead the Sea Kings to a Pacific Coast League victory Tuesday in the regular-season finale.

Corona del Mar, the No. 5-ranked team in CIF Southern Section Division III-A, clinched the league’s top playoff spot and at least a share of the league title.

Junior Joe Eberhard added 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Sea Kings (18-7, 7-1 in league).

Capistrano Valley Christian 52,SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — Sophomore forward Tierney Danner had 25 points and 12 rebounds, but the Lightning fell in a tough, double-overtime Academy League loss on Tuesday.

Sage Hill 51 (2 OT)

Katie McKeon had a season-high 12 points for Sage Hill, which missed two free throws with one second left in the second overtime. Kaitlin Tyre had six points, 13 rebounds and six assists for the Lightning (11-12, 6-3 in league), which had four starters foul out of the game.

With one game remaining, Sage Hill is in a three-way tie for first place in league with Brethren Christian and Whitney, but the Lightning have clinched a CIF Southern Section Division IV-AA playoff berth. Sage Hill closes out its regular season at Oxford Academy on Thursday.

Thomas’ goal was assisted by Kendra Fisher, a freshman playing her first varsity game after the Eagles (8-9-4, 1-5-2 in league) suffered several injuries last week. Goalie Madison Urtusuastegui made six saves for the Eagles, who play host to crosstown rival Costa Mesa on Thursday in their regular-season finale.
