Brenna Boies, team captain of the Edison High girls’ soccer team, signed a national letter of intent with Northern Arizona University on Wednesday.

Boies — a senior who was a sought-out player by several schools — also received offers from the University of Texas, Saint Mary’s College and Vanguard University. She said she gave a verbal commitment to Northern Arizona in January.

Boies, who was crowned Edison’s homecoming queen in the fall, said she planned on celebrating at dinner Wednesday with friend and fellow Edison senior Hunter White.

A member of the Chargers football team, White on Wednesday signed a letter of intent with Boise State.

“I’m really excited and it’s a great moment in my life,” said Boies, who said she’ll major in either physical education or interior design at Northern Arizona.

She said she’ll leave for the Flagstaff campus on July 7.

“Everything just felt right with the school,” she said. “I liked the coach and the girls were great. Also, I liked how it wasn’t such a big school, such as Texas, and I wanted a change. I can’t wait.”

Boies, who began playing soccer at age 5, made the Edison varsity team as a freshman. She has started at forward all four years and was an All-Sunset League selection the last two.

Currently, she’s the team leader in assists, and today’s match against Esperanza will be her final contest as a prep athlete.

She came into the current soccer season on the mend from ACL surgery she had last March.

“I’ve had a great time here at Edison,” said Boies, who also lettered in track and field and field hockey during her prep career. “It’s really been great here and although we’ve lost some tough matches this year, it’s been a real fun year. We’ve really worked hard together as a team and it was an enjoyable season, and I just want the girls to remember that.”
