GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Sage Hill 42, Oxford Academy 25CYPRESS — Sophomore forward Tierney Danner finished with 14 points and seven rebounds, helping the Lightning finish in first place in the Academy League, as it clinched at least a share of the top spot Thursday night.

“A great team effort,” said Sage Hill first-year varsity coach Lou Silverman. “The team just exceeded my expectations as far as character and work ethic.”

Kaitlin Tyre added 12 points, nine rebounds and three steals for Sage Hill (12-12, 7-3 in league), which closed out the regular season winning six of its last seven league games.

Sage Hill’s Katie McKeon had eight points and six assists.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Los Alamitos 60,NEWPORT BEACH — The Sailors played the second string for the majority of the Sunset League loss Thursday to league champion Los Alamitos, the No. 3-ranked team in CIF Southern Section Division I-A.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Sage Hill 3, Oxford Academy 0CYPRESS — Senior Kara Percival and junior Sara Montazami each had a goal and an assist to help lead the Lightning to an Academy League win Thursday.

Percival scored in the 14th minute on an assist from Montazami. In the 18th minute, Percival returned the favor, assisting on Montazami’s goal.

Senior Lauren Neal capped the scoring with a goal in the 60th minute. Senior Ali McLaughlin had the assist. The Lightning ended the regular season 12-8-1, 8-2 in league and will await CIF playoff seedings, which will be announced Monday.

Los Alamitos 2,LOS ALAMITOS — Freshman Gillian Hogan scored late in the second half for the Sailors, but they saw their season end with the Sunset League loss at Los Alamitos on Thursday.

Newport Harbor 1

Newport Harbor (9-10-3, 4-5-1 in league) needed to win to force a tie for third place in league with Esperanza and keep its CIF Southern Section Division I playoff hopes alive.

Sailors Coach Josh Brooks said midfielder Emily Ohlhaver, defender Christina O’Tousa and forward Erica Weedn all stood out for his team against Los Alamitos. Stephanie Castor made eight saves.
