Two arrests in fight at Costa Mesa apartmentA Costa Mesa man was arrested Saturday and booked on suspicion of assaulting his roommate with a collapsible baton in a dispute that police said arose over the apartment’s cleanliness.

Mario Andre Barriga, 23, was booked in Costa Mesa Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and carrying a concealed dangerous weapon. Lake Forest resident Ebony Williams, 18, who allegedly supplied the baton, was booked in Orange County Jail on suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon.

Barriga’s roommate, 23-year-old Paul Robert Ross, was cited for assault and battery and placed under citizen’s arrest. According to Lt. Loren Wyrick, Ross had punched Barriga in the face, and Barriga hit him with the baton shortly afterward. The incident occurred in mid-morning at an apartment complex on Pinecreek Drive.

Police say man tried to run down officersCosta Mesa police arrested a man Saturday morning whom they suspected of trying to run down officers at an apartment complex the night before.

According to Lt. Dale Birney, police arrested Jeremy Wade Pue, 29, at around 8:30 a.m. on Saturday during a traffic stop near Bristol Street and Paularino Avenue. He was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and held at Costa Mesa Jail.

On Friday, Birney said, the manager of an apartment complex at 635 Baker St. called police and reported an unidentified man sleeping in his vehicle in one of the car ports. Officers arrived and asked the man to roll down his window, at which point he accelerated forward and apparently tried to run down the officers in front of his car.

Birney said Pue did not live in the apartment complex and that his last-known residence was in Folsom.

Newport police seek owner of gold ringThe Newport Beach Police Department is seeking the owner of a ring found in possession of a woman who was arrested Wednesday as a suspect in a residential burglary.

Police said the ring, which appears to be a class ring from a graduate of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Academy, was confiscated from 29-year-old Michelle Lorraine Hughes, who was identified as a suspect in a residential burglary in Newport Beach. Hughes, a Canyon Lake resident, has since been released on bail.

Sgt. Evan Sailor said Hughes was arrested after a burglary in the 4900 block of Seashore Drive, which involved the theft of several laptop computers. Sailor believed, however, that the ring was taken from the Riverside area.

“Based on some of the property that the detectives found on her, she’s probably committing her crimes out there,” he said.

He added that police would return the ring to anyone who could provide proof of ownership. The ring, which Sailor estimated was around 30 to 40 years old, features the initials EBS on the inside.
