William Lyon announces new team

Newport Beach-based homebuilder William Lyon announced Friday the retirement of Wade Cable, the company’s president and chief operating officer.

Cable’s retirement will be effective March 1. He’s been the company’s president since 1999. William Lyon’s Executive Vice President Doug Bauer will replace Cable in March.

Cable started with William Lyon when it acquired The Presley Companies and its subsidiaries in 1987. Bauer has worked for the company for 18 years.

Bill H. Lyon, son of founder William Lyon, will replace Bauer as executive vice president. He will remain as the company’s chief administrative officer.

William Lyon designs builds and sells homes in California, Arizona and Nevada.

Beach business expo this week at Fairmont

The Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce is hosting the Business at the Beach Business Exposition at the Fairmont Newport Beach from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

The chamber expects 500 people to attend the free event, designed as a showcase and networking opportunity for local businesses.

About 60 chamber members participated last year. This year’s participants include Hornblower Cruises & Events, Grand Pacific Resorts and The Toll Roads. Booth space is still available.

Before Friday, members can pay $235 and nonmembers will be charged $675. After that date, the price goes up $75.

UCI Extension to offer marketing class

UC Irvine Extension offers a Marketing Update Webinar series from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Fridays, from Feb. 23 through April 13.

The series will help businesses learn about using the Internet for promotion and marketing.

The session will include topics like digital marketing, e-mail marketing, online advertising trends, blogs and online tracking.

Western Financial becomes Wachovia

The 17th Street Western Financial Bank branch became a Wachovia bank branch after Wachovia announced its merger with Western Financial last week.

Account numbers will be adjusted, but bank customers can continue to use Western Financial’s check and deposit slips. Automatic debits and deposits are supposed to continue without interruption. Customers can use Wachovia branches and ATMs. For customer service, call (800) 922-4684.

More than $70,000 raised for boat parade

The Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce announced Feb. 6 that it raised more than $70,000 at its Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade awards dinner and auction on Jan. 19.

The money will go to the chamber, which will continue to organize future parades.
