COMMUNITY COMMENTARY:Heartfelt thanks for Valentine’s gifts to troops

It is with the utmost appreciation that I say thank you for your generous Valentine’s gifts to the Marines and Sailors of Third Battalion, 1st Marines.

You have once again — and I emphasize again — overwhelmed us with your generosity and kindness. Operation “Hugs and Kisses” was a huge success with the men and completely caught them off guard. I am sure a lot of them would like to meet their secret admirers.

As we conduct our final certifications for the next deployment, it is reassuring that the wonderful citizens of Huntington Beach are thinking of us and remain committed to the Marines and Sailors of this battalion. Everyone enjoyed reading the cards and snacking on the delicious chocolate. The wrappers were outstanding and brought a smile to a lot of faces.

The young men of 3/1 are some of America’s finest, and it is an outstanding gesture that they are being so well taken care of by the great community of Huntington Beach. While we appreciate you keeping us in your thoughts, please know that Americans like yourselves are constantly in our minds as well. These brave Marines and Sailors are doing incredible things for their country, and you can be proud of every one of them. God Bless and Semper Fidelis.
