Skyler Fancher has signed on to become a Washington Husky.

The senior offensive and defensive tackle from Huntington Beach High signed a national letter of intent with the University of Washington on Feb. 7. Fancher did so in front of his parents, an aunt and Huntington Beach Athletic Director Roy Miller on the Huntington campus.

The 6-foot-6, 290-pound 18-year-old said he chose the Huskies over Boise State and San Diego State.

Heavily recruited toward the end of the 2006 prep football season, Fancher said he took official recruiting trips to Washington and San Diego State.

He said he was recruited by the Huskies as an offensive tackle.

“It’s a really nice school, it’s in the Pac-10 [conference], and they are a program that’s rebuilding pretty well,” he said.

Fancher was an all-league player in his final two high school seasons. He said he plans to major in either business or kinesiology.

“This is something I had planned on and had hoped for,” he said of his signing. “I’m excited to be going to Washington.”

Fancher was one of three locals to sign on Feb. 7. The other two players, Hunter White and Martin Coleman, both of Edison, signed with Boise State and USC, respectively.
