An observant neighbor’s tip led Newport Beach police on Tuesday to a woman they believe burglarized the same Corona del Mar house twice in a month.

Michelle Lorraine Hughes, 29, of Canyon Lake, is suspected in a string of burglaries including four in Corona del Mar and others in Murrieta and Temecula, according to police. When Newport Beach police arrested her Tuesday, she was out on bail after a Feb. 7 arrest on a warrant for a 2006 burglary, Newport Beach Police Lt. Jim Kaminsky said.

Police got a call at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday from a neighbor saying a house in the 300 block of Larkspur Avenue was being burglarized. When they arrived, a woman was carrying items wrapped in a blanket from the house to a 2007 Chevy Equinox parked in the alley behind the house, police said.

The woman dropped the items and put her hands in the air when police approached her, police said. Kaminsky said when police arrested her for the 2006 case, they found property at her home linking her to a number of other burglaries, including a Los Angeles Sheriff’s Academy class ring whose owner police are trying to locate.
