Eat breakfast and lunch; get motivated

Students from Corona del Mar, Newport Harbor and Back Bay and Monte Vista high schools are scheduled to participate in a mentor-for-a-day program Thursday, sponsored by the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce.

Although spots for mentors are full for this year’s program, people are invited to attend the breakfast and lunch portions of the event. Motivational speaker and founder of www.success4teens.com Bill Morris will speak at the 7:30 a.m. breakfast. Between breakfast and lunch, the students will shadow their mentor at the mentor’s job. The 70 students and mentors will then meet up again for lunch at 12:30 p.m. to talk about their experiences. Breakfast and lunch cost $25.

The event is held to motivate students to pursue careers they may be interested in or help those who are undecided.

Anyone interested in getting more information or in becoming a mentor next year should contact Linda Hendy at (949) 729-4403 or e-mail lhendy@newportbeach.com .

Delays are likely with road repairs on Balboa

Beginning Monday, the portion of Marine Avenue between Bayside Drive and North Bayfront will undergo an asphalt pavement grinding and overlay, temporarily reducing the two-lane bridge to a single lane with workers present to guide vehicles on and off the island.

Newport Beach public works officials encourage drivers to plan for additional travel time through the project’s anticipated completion on March 9.
