FREEDOM FROM SMOKING

The Hoag Hospital is offering an eight-week clinic from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursdays designed to help people quit smoking. Participants may join at any time; new eight-week sessions begin as soon as the current one ends, and rollover time is permitted. GARDENS IN BLOOM

Guests visiting the gardens at the UC Irvine Arboretum for its Winter Bulb Festival will be treated to late-winter blooms of gladiolus and daffodils and early-spring blooms in the southern African bulb garden. The Costa Mesa advisory committee of teens needs donations of new or gently used sports equipment as part of its community service project to help Wounded Warriors, a group working to rehabilitate military personnel through sports. FUNDRAISING GALA

Mary’s Shelter, a home for pregnant girls 12 to 18 in Santa Ana, will hold its annual fundraising gala, Emerald Enchantment, at 6 p.m. at the Radisson Hotel, 4545 MacArthur Blvd., Newport Beach. The gala’s events include dinner, live and silent auctions, and entertainment by Irish band Gypsy’s Gold and dancers from Celtic Gold. Tickets are $135.
