COSTA MESA — Junior guard Jessica Richter scored a game-high 26 points to help the Lions close out an unbeaten regular season in a Golden State Athletic Conference game Monday.

Vanguard, ranked No. 1 in NAIA Division I, is 25-0, 20-0 in conference. They have now won 56 straight regular-season games and 43 straight regular-season conference games. They have won the last five GSAC regular-season titles. By doing so, they qualify for the NAIA Tournament, March 14-20, at Oman Arena in Jackson, Tenn.

The Lions, open the GSAC Tournament Wednesday, with a quarterfinal home clash against No. 8-seeded Concordia at 7:30 p.m.

The conference tournament semifinals are Friday and the title game is schedule Monday. Vanguard would play at home, should it qualify for either or both.

Hope International fell to 12-17, 4-16.

Anteater Invitational

NEWPORT BEACH — The Anteaters are four strokes ahead after two rounds of the three-round event at Big Canyon Country Club’s par-72 course.

UC Irvine’s Kenny Kim is competing individually and is second with a one-over 145.

Brian Edick is third with a score of 146, while John Chin and Tim Cha are tied for eighth at 150.

Arizona’s B-team is four strokes behind UCI with the final 18 holes scheduled today.

WOMEN’S GOLF

Fresno Invitational

FRESNO — The Anteaters lead the event by two strokes over the host Fresno State Bulldogs through one round, posting a 297 at Cooper River Country Club Monday.

Three Anteaters are in the top four of the tournament with 18 holes remaining. Juniors Selanee Henderson and Jane Chin each shot par 72 to share the lead with Colorado’s Dominique Pytlewski.

UCI is the defending champion of the tournament which concludes today.
