MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

UC Irvine def. UC San DiegoIRVINE — The Anteaters breezed to a 30-16, 30-18, 30-25 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation victory over UC San Diego Wednesday.

No. 2-ranked UC Irvine hit a season-high 11 aces, with junior Aaron Harrell and freshman Cole Reinholm notching career-highs with four aces apiece. Jayson Jablonsky had a team-high 10 kills and David Smith had nine kills.

UCI picked up 12.5 blocks to three from the Tritons. Matt Webber and Brent Asuka led the ‘Eaters with five digs each. Brian Thornton had 37 assists for UCI (18-3, 12-3 in conference).

BASEBALL

Azusa Pacific 3, Vanguard 2COSTA MESA — Third baseman Matt Voorhies had two doubles, but the Lions narrowly missed an upset bid Wednesday in a Golden State Athletic Conference game at Vanguard.

Luke Iverson and Adam Hastings also had two hits for Vanguard (4-4, 4-4 in conference). Derek Craddock and Benjamin Linn both scored runs.

Eddie Crespo had three RBIs for Azusa Pacific (15-1, 8-1).

Orange Coast dropped to 1-14, 0-5 in conference. The Pirates play host to Santa Ana Friday at 3 p.m.
