Corona del Mar wins CIF championship

ANAHEIM — Corona del Mar High junior Stefan Kaluz scored 23 points to lead the Sea Kings boys’ basketball team to a 67-59 victory over Renaissance Academy of La Canada and the CIF Southern Section Division III-A championship Saturday at the Honda Center.
The Sea Kings (22-7) won Corona del Mar its fifth CIF championship in boys’ basketball, and the first since the 1994-95 season.
It was labeled as an upset as CdM is the No. 4 seed and Renaissance the No. 2, but the Sea Kings never lost their lead the entire game and showed poise in their execution.
Junior Joe Eberhard added 18 points and senior Eddie Lane scored 14 points for Corona del Mar, co-champion of the Pacific Coast League.
Renaissance Academy dropped to 28-2.
Corona del Mar will receive its seeding Sunday in the CIF State playoffs. The Sea Kings are in Division III of the Southern California regional.
