MEN’S TRACK AND FIELD

Orange Coast 125, Saddleback 15MISSION VIEJO — Josh Strickland, Jesse Ramirez and Kyle Peterson all won two individual events apiece to lead the Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference dual meet Friday at Saddleback.

Strickland, a Costa Mesa High product, won the 100 meters (11.08 seconds) and the 200 in 22.56. He also contributed to the winning 400 relay (43.69).

Ramirez won the 800 in 1:59.82 and the 1,500 in 4:13.54, while Peterson won the 110 high hurdles (16.60) and the high jump (6 feet, 2 inches).

Other OCC winners included: Justin Parga (51.06 in the 400); Brandon Babiracki (8:56.96 in the 3,000); Chris Pfeiufer (57.93 in the 400 intermediate hurdles); Chris Macke (21-5 1/2 in the long jump); Trevor Schuester (14-0 in the pole vault); Clint Parga (41-4 1/4 in the triple jump); Kenetiu Faagata (47-4 3/4 in the shot put), Andres Rossimi (137-3 1/2 in the discus throw); and Scott Burbach (191-7 1/2 in the javelin).

WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD

Orange Coast 100, Saddleback 34MISSION VIEJO — Madison Empting won the 100 meters and the 200 and also contributed to winning 400 and 1,600 relays to lead the Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference dual meet Friday at Saddleback.

Empting won the 100 in 13.67 seconds and the 200 in 28.06.

OCC’s Erendira Uriostegui won the 800 in 2:45.74 and the 3,000 in 10:57.92, and was on the winning 1,600 relay (4:18.44).

OCC’s Brenda Finney won the 100 hurdles (16.83) and the high jump (4 feet, 6 inches).

Other OCC winners included: Melinda Rackliffe (5:10.17 in the 1,500); Hester Chang (83-10 in the discus); and Brittany Ickes (101-10 in the javelin).

SOFTBALL

Santa Ana 1, Orange Coast 0COSTA MESA — Janae Rivera’s two-out single in the fourth inning was the lone hit for the Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference game Friday at OCC.

Freshman pitcher Jessica Aldrich allowed three hits and one earned run in seven innings for the Pirates (1-15, 0-7 in conference). She struck out three and walked one.

Santa Ana (10-6, 4-2) scored on a triple and sacrifice fly in the first inning.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Orange Coast def. San Diego CityCOSTA MESA — Kevin Welch finished with 13 kills and seven digs in the Pirates’ 30-22, 30-24, 30-28 win in a Pacific Coast Conference opener Friday.

OCC’s Keali Bertelmann added 11 kills, Alika De Rego finished with 15 digs and Trevor Holmes had 30 assists.

OCC (6-1, 1-0 in conference) plays at Palomar Wednesday.

MEN’S TENNIS

UC Riverside 4, Vanguard 3RIVERSIDE — The Lions suffered their first loss of the season in a nonleague match Friday at UC Riverside.

Florian Lemke, Dieter Weislmaier and Greg Chevalier all won three-set matches in singles for Vanguard (6-1), and the doubles team of Dominic Stockler and Weislmaier also won, 8-2.
