Costa Mesa 3, Santiago 0GARDEN GROVE — Senior right-hander Chad Peterson threw a complete-game shutout, limiting the Cavaliers to seven hits and striking out three in the pool-play game Saturday at Santiago.

John Rybarczyk drove in a run on a fielder’s choice in the first inning and Matt Pisarski doubled in a run during a two-run fourth for the Mustangs (2-0). Zach Von Berg went two for three for Costa Mesa.

Jarrett Daniel was two for four with an RBI for Newport Harbor (0-2), which play its final pool play game Tuesday at home against Ocean View 3 p.m..

Costa Mesa TournamentCOSTA MESA — Kiele Brown went two for three to help lead Estancia High to an 11-1 mercy-rule win over La Quinta to help the Eagles go 1-1 Saturday.

Estancia lost, 4-3, to Saddleback in a five-inning game that ended because of the time limit. Freshman Courtney Ulrich went two for four with two RBIs for the Eagles.

Estancia plays in the consolation semifinals March 10.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Lightning InvitationalNEWPORT BEACH — Host Sage Hill School finished fourth in the four-team Lightning Invitational, completed Saturday at the Balboa Bay Club Racquet Club.

Viewpoint of Calabasas, the defending CIF Southern Section Division IV champion, won the event. Sage Hill Coach A.G. Longoria said the influential tournament will likely determine the initial Division IV CIF poll positions.

Sage Hill senior Martin Park made the all-tournament team.
