Costa Mesa chamber to host networking events

The Costa Mesa Chamber of Commerce will host two networking events this month that can satisfy early birds and night owls.

From 7 to 8:45 a.m. March 15, the chamber invites business people to its 90-minute Breakfast Boost at the Costa Mesa Country Club.

The networking event costs $15 if participants prepay. It’s $20 at the door.

For those who can’t make the morning event, the chamber offers the After Hours Mixer from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 28 at Theory, a clothing store at South Coast Plaza. The event is free for members and $10 for nonmembers.

Public relations firm makes two hires

Costa Mesa-based Idea Hall, a marketing and public relations firm, announced Wednesday it hired two employees to work at its new, larger office space on South Coast Drive.

Holly Naylor was named an account executive, and Raymond Diaz a media relations specialist.

Naylor graduated from Arizona State University and previously worked as an anchor for a 10 p.m. news program in Oklahoma.

Diaz graduated from Cal State Fullerton and has worked at a boutique public relations firm with entertainment industry clients.

Volcom expects more revenue boosts

Volcom, a Costa Mesa-based surf and skate fashion retailer, had a good 2006, with an overall revenue growth of more than 28% and is anticipating an even better 2007. The company expects as much as a 36% increase in sales this year.

Total revenue for 2006 was more than $205 million. The company expects to make between $275 and $280 million this year.

Toshiba Classic to host women’s golf clinic

To encourage more women to play golf, a golf clinic will be hosted at the Toshiba Classic at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Newport Beach Country Club.

The Toshiba Classic women’s golf clinic will help participants understand all the nuances of the game — everything from the rules to the fashions.

Jane Yamamoto of Fox-TV Channel 11 will kick off the seminar, and lunch will be served. After lunch and a NikeWomen fashion show, there will be a seminar to learn the etiquette and fundamentals of the game. There will also be an equipment and golf demonstration by pros.
