Newport Harbor 197, Corona del Mar 206

SANTA ANA -- Justin Morehead was the individual medalist after shooting a one-over-par 37 in the nonleague match at Santa Ana Country Club Wednesday.

Newport Harbor’s Andrew Skjonsby shot a 38, tying him with teammate Dan Darnell and also Corona del Mar’s Taylor Keddington for the second-best score.

The Sailors (2-3) other finishers were Chase Behr and Bryce Greeley, who each finished with a 42. The Sea Kings other top four finishers were David Su (39), Camden Nicholson (39), Josh Starnes (41) and Pat Suozzi (49).

Garden Grove 222, Costa Mesa 239

COSTA MESA — Freshman Billy Lim shot a six-over-par 41 to lead the Mustangs in a nonleague match Wednesday at Costa Mesa Golf & Country Club’s Mesa Linda course.

Also scoring for Costa Mesa (2-3) were Anthony Buckley (44), Eddie Rodriguez (51), Stephan Wright (51) and Garrick Vohs (52).

Costa Mesa plays host to Westminster today at Mesa Verde.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Corona del Mar def. Huntington Beach

CORONA DEL MAR — Gus Ellis had 15 kills to lead the Sea Kings to a 25-13, 28-26, 21-25, 25-23 nonleague victory Wednesday night.

Jeff Carlson added 13 kills, nine digs and three aces, Dillon Davis chipped in with eight kills and four blocks and Blaine Nielsen contributed eight kills for Corona del Mar (2-0).

The Sea Kings will play in the Best of the West Tournament in Poway starting Friday.

Laguna Beach def. Newport Harbor

LAGUNA BEACH — Tucker Peleuses and Weston Dunlap had 14 kills each in the Sailors’ 23-25, 25-23, 18-25, 20-25 nonleague loss Wednesday night.

Dunlap, who has verbally committed to UCLA, also had four blocks, too. Darren Leggett amassed 46 assists. The Sailors were without Kyle Caldwell, who is out with a stress fracture in his foot, Newport Harbor Coach Dan Glenn said.

Newport Harbor will play in the Best of the West Tournament in Poway starting Friday.

BASEBALL

Corona del Mar 7, Santiago 2

IRVINE — With two outs in the second inning, Jake Lemmerman was part of a rally that saw five batters hit safely and drive in five runs in the Sea Kings’ fourth game in the Newport Elks Tournament’s Frank Lerner Division on Wednesday.

Lemmerman went two for four with one RBI, and Michael DiRocco went two for four with two RBIs for CdM (2-2).

CdM pitcher Vinnie St. John picked up his first win after scattering five hits over six innings.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

Corona del Mar 13, Los Alamitos 3

CORONA DEL MAR — David Kidushim had four goals and an assist, leading the Sea Kings to the easy win Wednesday at CdM.

Noah Molnar and Connor Pinkston each had three goals and an assist for Corona del Mar. Casey Bush and Ryan Mix both had two assists.

Goalie Andrew Noto made seven saves, and Kevin Kottke, Kyle Tomlin and Nick Taylor also anchored the defense. Kyle Canale led all Sea King players with four groundballs.

Corona del Mar improved to 3-0.
