Bicyclist who was struck in hit-and-run is identified

The man who was left unconscious Wednesday morning after being hit while riding his bicycle on Dover Drive in Newport Beach has been identified as Santa Ana resident Jon Robert Vansenus.

Newport Beach police believe Vansenus was ejected from the bicycle and thrown into the bushes after bring struck by a car. Vansenus is in serious condition at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, according to police.

Based on evidence at the scene, the vehicle involved in the collision was an off-white or gray Toyota Previa minivan, and investigators are asking for the public’s assistance in locating the vehicle and its driver — who fled the scene.
