THE LAST WORD:Another great week of golf

The resounding message we heard this week was this: $10 million in 10 years for Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian.

That’s the number that Toshiba Classic golf tournament officials hoped to raise, and we suspect that by today, that number will be met and maybe even surpassed.

Even those who don’t care for golf have got to be impressed with that.

But for those who love golf, this was a week to remember.

It started with a pro-am tournament on Monday, then the annual breakfast and shot from the top of the Newport Marriott on Tuesday, another pro-am on Wednesday and Thursday, and finally this weekend’s senior PGA action at Newport Beach Country Club.

If you don’t count the contributions to Hoag, what the Toshiba Classic does for Newport Beach in tourism dollars and public relations is immeasurable — just ask the Newport Beach Conference and Visitors Bureau.

For all that we say thanks.

Thanks to Toshiba and the other sponsors; Hank Adler, retiring chairman; Jeff Purser, tournament director; the PGA; the Newport Beach Country Club; and all of the volunteers who makes this event possible.

We had a great Toshiba week and hope you did too.

See you on the links.
