SURFING SOAPBOX:Don’t trash the town

Driving out Laguna Canyon road yesterday, I must say I was shocked at just how much litter lined the sides of the road.

It was as if someone had deliberately emptied out all of the trash that had taken up residency in his or her car.

It astonishes me just how much garbage was left on the side of Laguna Canyon road and I don’t think it was always littered like that; in fact I know it wasn’t.

Is it because more people are coming to Laguna every day?

Or is it that the society that we live in today just doesn’t care that much about the effects littering has on our environment?

Or on our quality of life.

We have seen the same effects of what litter is doing to our beaches and luckily enough we have beach cleanups to help alleviate this problem.

Another Adopt-A-Beach cleanup is scheduled for March 24 that will be administered by the Clean Water Now! Coalition.

Perhaps it is time to begin the Laguna Canyon Road cleanup program.

Why do people feel that it is OK to litter the beach or anywhere else for that matter?

Is it stupidity, laziness or just ignorance?

Either way, it does not make any sense to me.

It’s like saying, let’s spend a beautiful day at the beach, enjoy ourselves and then leave our trash behind, or forget about it.

It shouldn’t happen like that. We need to begin some sort of new campaign and not tolerate this kind of trashy behavior in our town “” or anywhere else for that matter.

Peace.
