Learn to make matzah at Chabad

Children and adults are invited to take part in a hands-on experience in matzah-making at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, at the Chabad Jewish Center in South Laguna.

The traveling bakery is modeled after an authentic brick oven bakery, and participants will winnow and grind wheat stalks into flour, knead and roll the dough, then bake and enjoy their own fresh matzah.

A Passover-themed arts and crafts workshop will follow.

To attend, call Chabad at (949) 499-0770. There is a $10 fee.

Chabad is at 30804 So. Coast Highway.

In addition, Chabad will be hosting a community Seder on the first night of Passover.

For information, call the center or visit the website at www.chabadoflaguna.com. Reservations are necessary.

Easter baskets for Marine families

Everyone is invited to help assemble Easter baskets for Camp Pendleton Marines’ children on Wednesday, March 21 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at Laguna Presbyterian Church.

Church members have purchased baskets and treats for 150 children. Volunteers will fill the baskets with paper grass, chocolate bunnies, candies, stuffed animals and toys in assembly-line fashion.

Wrapped baskets will be picked up by “Friends of San Onofre Marines” around 10 a.m. that morning, and distributed at an Easter party on base.

This is the fourth year that Laguna Presbyterian has provided Easter baskets for the children of Camp Pendleton Marines, many of whom are serving their third or fourth tour of duty in Iraq. Baskets will be assembled in Tankersley Hall located between the church and the preschool on Second Avenue.
