THE LAST WORD:Memorize these two youngsters’ names

Quick — what’s your license plate number? When you’re asked, do you have to run out to the car and check? Maybe you have trouble remembering your wedding anniversary. Well, have we got a couple of coaches for you. Daniel Yu and Jamie Searles have that memorization thing down pat.

Daniel, a sixth-grader who recently moved to Newport Beach from South Korea, polished up his English and won the lead to his school’s production of “Annie Get Your Gun” after borrowing a DVD of the musical from the library and watching it repeatedly.

Sixth-grader Jamie wowed us this week after she recited 801 of the presumably endless numbers in the formula for pi.

Sheesh, most of us mathematically challenged journalists here in the office have trouble remembering passwords for websites. At a time when there’s so much news about troubled youths, it’s great to hear the success stories too.
