ALL-LEAGUE BOYS’ AND GIRLS’ SOCCER:Burke named MVP

Corona del Mar High senior midfielder Bryan Burke has been named the Pacific Coast League Offensive Most Valuable Player.

Burke will play for the University of San Francisco next season.

Four Sea Kings (9-12-2) earned all-league honors after advancing to the CIF Southern Section Division III quarterfinals and finishing second in the Pacific Coast League.

Seniors midfielder Jon Udartsev and defender Pat Suozzi were named first-team all-league. Sophomore defender Miles Kellerman and junior forward Paolo Iaccarino earned second-team all-league honors.

ACADEMY LEAGUE

Sage Hill School senior stopper Alex Edelstein is the Academy League Most Valuable Player for the second consecutive year to lead eight Lightning named all-league by the league’s boys’ soccer coaches.

Senior forward Tyler Ellis, senior forward Richard Gadbois, senior forward Braden Ross and sophomore Nick Singarella joined Edelstein as first-team honorees for the Lightning (15-1-2), who won a league title and advanced to the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division VI playoffs. Sage Hill went unbeaten during the regular season.

For Ross and Edelstein it was their third year they have been named to the first team.

It was the second time Ellis and Gadbois have been named to the first team.

Senior midfielder Conrad Whitaker, freshman forward Ben Capaldi and junior goalkeeper Beau Caillouette were named second-team all-league.

Whitaker was a second-team honoree last season after earning first-team recognition the year prior.

ORANGE COAST LEAGUE

Just like during the season, the Estancia High boys’ soccer team dominated the Orange Coast League post-season awards.

Sophomore midfielder George Olivas was named the league’s Most Valuable Player and senior forward Edgar Rodriguez was named Offensive Player of the Year.

Rodriguez led the team with 10 goals and Olivas had a team-high 38 steals for the Eagles, who won the league championship and finished with an 11-6-5 record.

Junior forward and midfielder Eric Duarte, senior defender Luis Guerrero, junior forward and midfielder Jose Rodriguez and senior defender Alex Salguero were named first-team all-league for the Eagles.

Sophomore forward Steve Estrada and senior midfielder and forward Franco Duarte were first-team all-league honorees for Costa Mesa, which finished at 3-12-3.

Sophomore defender Rony Argueta, senior defender Eduardo Castillo, sophomore forward Antonio Flores senior midfielder and forward Denny Perdomo and senior goalkeeper Daniel Calderon were second-team for Estancia.

Junior midfielder and goalkeeper German Briseño and senior defender Jay Benny Quiroz were named second-team all-league for the Mustangs.

GIRLS

ORANGE COAST LEAGUE

Ayla Medina and Caitlin Duffy took home top Orange Coast League honors for the Costa Mesa High.

Medina, a sophomore forward, was named Co-Most Valuable Player with Elizabeth Eddy of Calvary Chapel. Medina scored 19 goals with 12 assists for the Mustangs. Duffy, a senior stopper, was named Co-Defensive Most Valuable Player with Claire Rubel of Laguna Beach. Duffy, a four-year starter, was the Golden West League Defensive MVP last season.

Costa Mesa (11-8-8) notched its fifth consecutive league title and advanced to the CIF Division III playoffs.

Senior stopper Kaily Carich, sophomore forward Kyra Graham, who had 11 goals and seven assists, senior midfielder Sharon Frazier and senior sweeper Mykala Lux were named first-team all-league for the Mustangs.

Senior defender Bridget Gleason and junior midfielder and defender Stacy McDaniels were first-team all-league honorees for Estancia.

Mustangs senior midfielder Cyndi Mendoza, junior midfielder Marina Lazos, sophomore midfielder Kristina Roche and senior forward Alaina Abalos were named second-team all-league.

Junior forward Jennifer Thomas, sophomore defender Natalie Plascencia and senior goalkeeper Madison Urtusuastegui were named second-team all-league for Estancia.

SUNSET LEAGUE

Newport Harbor High girls’ soccer players Gillian Hogan and Carly Ruiz were named first-team All-Sunset League.

Hogan, a freshman forward, and Ruiz, a junior midfielder, were key for the Sailors, who finished 9-10-3 and narrowly missed the playoffs.

Junior midfielder Emily Ohlhaver and senior forward Erica Weedn earned second-team all-league honors.
