Actress, wife, mother, cat lover, Duck Lady of Balboa Island. Born September 17, 1919. Died in Costa Mesa, March 12, 2007. Oldest daughter of Benjamin and Ray Kutler, Bunty was raised in Beverly Hills and attended the Westlake School for Girls (now the Harvard-Westlake School). Afterwards, she studied acting. Her performing career, under the name Bunty Cutler, included live theatre, radio, and motion pictures. She was married to Sidney Justin, long-standing entertainment industry attorney who, at one time, headed the legal department at Paramount Pictures’ Hollywood studio. In the early 1970s, the couple moved to Newport Beach, eventually settling on Balboa Island. Sometime after her husband’s death in 1992, Bunty became the subject of a dispute with the City of Newport Beach concerning her feeding of ducks which congregated on the dock in front of her Grand Canal home. The dispute led to the passage of a city ordinance regulating the feeding of birds. Bunty is survived by her son, Bill, her only child, and daughter-in-law Monika. Bunty’s friends are invited to honor and remember her life on Saturday, March 24, 2007 at 1 p.m. at her home at 217 Grand Canal, Balboa Island. Inquiries should be directed to Bill Justin at 831-818-4300. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Best Friends Animal Society (www.bestfriends.org) or the Association of Friends of the Animals of Sosua (www.aasosua.com).
