REEL FANS:Somewhere in a timeline

Daily Pilot staffer Sue Thoensen went to Edwards Metro Pointe 12 to get moviegoers’ opinions of “Premonition,” starring Sandra Bullock, Julian McMahon, Nia Long and Kate Nelligan.

Linda Hanson (Bullock) answers the door one morning and is informed by her town’s sheriff that her husband, Jim Hanson (McMahon) was killed in a traffic accident. She and her mother (Nelligan) begin making funeral arrangements. But when Linda wakes up the next morning, Jim is downstairs in the kitchen — alive and well.

Time moves backward and forward in this suspenseful tale about whether people have the ability to change their destinies.

“I thought the movie was excellent. The story was deep and powerful, and I like Sandra Bullock. I thought it was about the best performance she’s given that I’ve seen. The movie was a little slow in the beginning, but then it picked up speed and really drew you in. It was pointless for me [to guess what was happening] in the beginning — I kept thinking, What is going on? It was a real roller coaster.”Grade: A

“I thought it was a great movie. Really interesting, kind of blurs the lines of reality — what’s real and what’s not. I would love to see it again…. When you get to the end, I thought it was a great story line, but I really couldn’t figure out the direction — it kept changing. I also thought the relationships that were built in the story were good.”Grade: A

“I liked the movie a lot — I didn’t know what was going to happen. I thought it was going to be like “A Beautiful Mind,” where it really wasn’t happening, but it was totally different. I think she had a premonition, and I liked it because of the message — that you need to get your ducks in a row [because something might happen].Grade: B+

“The movie was intense and just different. You definitely had to pay attention. I think the cast was wonderful. I really like Sandra Bullock, and I thought she did an awesome job, especially since it was a whole different role for her with a thriller. I would tell people to go see it — I’d just tell them [they need] to pay attention.”Grade: A

“It was an interesting movie. I was a little disappointed in the ending — it didn’t explain a lot of why things were the way they were. It left things hanging quite a bit. I thought I had the plot figured out halfway through, but that’s not what happened. The casting was good — I’ve always been a big Sandra Bullock fan, and I watch ‘Nip/Tuck,’ so I knew Julian McMahon. I just thought plot-wise it didn’t quite deliver on its big premise.”Grade: C

“I liked the movie all the way through until the end. I didn’t like the ending — it felt like it didn’t explain things; it wasn’t over. It left me wanting something more. It was hard to keep [the timeline] straight. What day is it, when did that happen? There were some confusing things that just weren’t answered.”Grade: C
