BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Newport Harbor def. EdisonHUNTINGTON BEACH — Weston Dunlap had 17 kills and three blocks to lead the Sailors to a 25-13, 25-16, 20-25, 25-22 Sunset League-opening win over the defending league champ Tuesday.

Tucker Peluses added 12 kills and four blocks, and Mark Liebermann had seven kills, while Boyd Grubbs and JD Green had five kills each. Darren Leggett contributed 45 assists and eight digs. Andrew Kaban had 15 digs. Jamie Galey had seven digs. Max Volz had four kills and three blocks for Newport Harbor (10-7), which plays at Fountain Valley on Friday.

Sage Hill def. Oxford AcademyNEWPORT COAST — With 21 kills from sophomore Bayle Smith the Lightning blew past their Academy League foe Tuesday for a 25-15, 25-15, 25-13 victory at Sage Hill.

Sophomore Michael Bear added 28 assists and freshman Joey Booth and junior Carl Hillgren had two aces each for Sage Hill (6-6, 1-1 in league), the No. 5-ranked team in CIF Southern Section Division V.

Corona del Mar def. BeckmanCORONA DEL MAR — The Sea Kings picked up the victory with ease, 25-11, 25-15, 25-19, in their Pacific Coast League opener Tuesday at Corona del Mar.

Senior Blaine Nielsen and junior Gus Ellis had five kills apiece. Junior Spencer Brown added nine digs and junior Dillon Flinn had four kills for Corona del Mar, the No. 1-ranked team in Division II. Senior Brad McCoy had four kills and five blocks for the Sea Kings (17-1, 1-0 in league).

BOYS’ TENNIS

Estancia 10, Laguna Beach 8COSTA MESA — Bradley Fisher and Danny O’Neil swept in singles to lead the Eagles to the Orange Coast League win Tuesday.

In the third go-round, O’Neil won a 7-6 (7-5) set to clinch the team victory. Ely Zaidler won two sets for the Eagles (7-3, 2-0 in league).

Corona del MarThe CdM and University boys’ tennis match was postponed because of the wind Tuesday, Sea Kings’ Coach Tim Mang said. The rescheduled date has not been set.

Newport Harbor 14,FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Sophomore Josh Tuz swept his three sets at No. 2 singles and the duo of sophomore Daron Arnold and freshman Connor Curry swept at No. 2 doubles to lead the Sailors to the Sunset League victory Tuesday.

Sean Vogel went two for three with two RBIs and Alex Jimenez went two for two with two RBIs for Sage Hill (4-3).

Darnell’s 36 was his best of the season. Dalton Shane (41), Bryce Greeley (41) and Dyllin Shane 42 also contributed for Newport Harbor (7-4, 2-0 in league), which will face Corona del Mar today at Newport Beach Country Club.

Corona del Mar 203,IRVINE — Taylor Keddington shot one-under-par 35 to earn medalist honors in the Sea Kings’ Pacific Coast League match at Strawberry Farms Golf Course Tuesday.

Sophomore Storm Higgins (39), senior Pat Flannery (40) and senior Drew Berton (41) also scored for the Eagles (9-2, 5-0 in league) who have not lost a league match in five years.

Sage Hill 212, Irvine 220IRVINE — The Lightning battled harsh conditions to pick up the nonleague victory Tuesday at Oak Creek Golf Club’s par-36 course, as sophomore Steve Choi and senior Geoffrey Grant shared medalist honors with three-over-par 39s.

Mac Mace (42), Ryan Babbush (45), Steve Grant (47) and James Chai (47) scored for Sage Hill (8-2, 6-1 in league).

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Newport Harbor 12, Tustin 2TUSTIN — Leighanne Thompson scored three goals, while Lily Dierkes and Elizabeth Cramer scored two goals each to help lead the Sailors to the victory Tuesday.

Freshman Zoe Wolfe scored her first goal in her first game for Newport Harbor (3-3-1).

SOFTBALL

Tesoro 10, Newport Harbor 0RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA — Jane Messersmith struck out six and allowed four hits and three earned runs for the Sailors in the nonleague game Tuesday.

Casey Lucas had Newport Harbor’s lone hit, a single in the first inning. The Sailors play at Rancho Alamitos in a doubleheader on Saturday at 11 a.m.
