MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Orange Coast def. San Diego CitySAN DIEGO — Kevin Welch had 13 kills and seven digs to lead the Pirates to their 13th straight win, a 30-19, 30-23, 30-20 Pacific Coast League victory Wednesday.

Rick Schroeder added 12 kills and Stefan Brule contributed eight digs and two aces for Orange Coast (13-1, 7-0 in conference). Trevor Holmes amassed 36 assists for the Pirates, who play host to Palomar on Friday at 6 p.m.

WOMEN’S WATER POLO

UC Irvine 12, Brown 6IRVINE — Anteaters freshman Erin Kiene had a career- and team-high four goals to lead No. 6 UCI to a nonconference win Wednesday.

Senior Jackie Prine added three goals for the ‘Eaters (15-6), who held No. 19 Brown (14-6) to just one goal after halftime. Junior goalie Lauren Machanis made eight saves, while freshman Kelsey Wilcox added a save.

UCI plays host to No. 1 Stanford on April 6 at 5 p.m. in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match.

Luke Iverson went three for five with three doubles, three RBIs and three runs for Vanguard (15-11, 12-10 in conference), which blew the game open in the seventh and eighth innings, where it scored seven runs.

Vanguard 7, Point Loma 2COSTA MESA — The Lions, ranked No. 6 in the NAIA, won five of six singles matches and a pair of doubles matches in a Golden State Athletic Conference win on Tuesday.

Seniors Dieter Weislmaier and Vasileios Psyrras, sophomores Florian Lemke and Thomas Frank and freshman Greg Chevalier all won singles matches for Vanguard (14-4, 4-1 in conference).

The Lions are at Biola on Friday.

The teams of Hana Jurcovicova and Damia Donkervoort, Amy Brown and Zuzana Zustakova, and Betyel Tesfa and Olivia Omstad all won for Vanguard (12-2, 5-1 in conference).
