CITYSCAPE ROUNDUP:Construction could cause delays

Adams Avenue and other roads will undergo major construction starting April 2. The work is expected to be done by late May. The affected area of Adams Avenue runs from Magnolia Street all the way to the Santa Ana River.

Drivers are strongly advised to use alternate routes, especially to cross the river, as only one lane will be open in each direction most times of day.

Suggested detours across the Santa Ana River include Hamilton Avenue, Talbert Avenue, Pacific Coast Highway and the San Diego Freeway (I-405). Workers will install message boards to keep the public informed of the construction.

Other roads soon to see crews are: Bolsa Chica Street from Warner Avenue to Rancho Road, which begins when Adams Avenue is complete; and Goldenwest Street from Warner Avenue to McFadden Avenue, scheduled for June.

The $7 million roadway rehabilitation project is scheduled to finish this fall.

Foundation looking for donations for Marines

The Huntington Beach 3/1 Marines Foundation, which supports the 3rd Battalion/1st Marines, is looking for help in its “Operation Sweet Dreams” effort to help Marines rest easier and satisfy their craving for chocolate, all at the same time.

Those who wish to help should fill a 9x12 envelope with one new white pillowcase and four extra-large flat chocolate bars, such as Hershey’s or Nestle Crunch, then close it with a clasp and label it “Operation Sweet Dreams.” Donors are asked to include a note.

Envelopes can be dropped off at the following places: Seevid Inc., 5445 Oceanus Drive, Ste. 117, with Phyllis or Rose; Mailbox Express, 19744 Beach Blvd., in a box on the counter marked “Operation Sweet Dreams”; or HB Digital Arts, 1615 Alabama St., in the marked box.

Deadline for the donations is April 6, as the battalion deploys from Camp Pendleton on April 9.

For more information, or to arrange a large drop-off, call Cindy at (714) 375-3131, or e-mail HB4Marines@aol.com.

Officials ask Orange County to conserve

Orange County residents and businesses are asked to conserve as much water as possible through Saturday while the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California shuts down a Yorba Linda plant for upgrades. The district provides water to the Orange County Water District and Mesa Consolidated Water District, which serves Huntington Beach.

The Robert B. Diemer Water Treatment Plant in Yorba Linda will be improved as part of a $155-million plan to upgrade water treatment. If customers voluntarily conserve water during the weeklong plant closure — especially outdoor uses like sprinklers — water district officials expect locally stored supplies to meet the county’s needs.
