Stanford InvitationalSTANFORD — UC Irvine sophomore Lauren Collins set the school record with a mark of 5 feet, 11 1/4 inches in winning the high jump Friday.

Collins broke the previous record of 5-10, held for 22 years by Jenny Linderman. Collins’ previous outdoor best was 5-9 3/4 at the Cal State Norhridge Multi-Event on March 15.

UCI’s Eric Nyberg tied for second in his section of the long jump at 21-6 and was sixth in his section of the javelin throw (179-3). UCI’s Ashlee Marshell placed ninth in her section of the long jump (17-9 1/2 ).

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Orange Coast def. PalomarCOSTA MESA — Kevin Welch had 16 kills and two aces for the Pirates in a 30-25, 30-25, 30-23 Pacific Coast Conference sweep on Friday at OCC.

Matt Knutson had 10 kills and Neil Bell added nine for OCC (14-1, 8-0 in conference), which won its 14th straight match.

MEN’S TENNIS

UAB 4, UC Irvine 3IRVINE — The No. 75-ranked Anteaters split six singles sets, but lost the doubles point in the final match of the Anteater Classic on Friday.

Winning singles sets for UCI (8-9) were junior Andrei Radulescu, freshman Zac Tsai and senior Aaron Yovan. Yovan and senior Mustafa Ulukan, playing in their final home match, won in doubles, but University of Alabama-Birmingham (9-5) won the other two doubles sets.

Anteater Classic -- Yovan (UCI) def. Weiss, 6-2, 7-5; Lamm (UCI) lost to Spangenberg, 4-6, 6-1, 3-6; Ulukan (UCI) lost to Bauer, 5-7, 6-7; Suzuki (UCI) lost to Despotovski, 3-6, 2-6; Tsai (UCI) def. Emery, 6-4, 6-2; Radulescu (UCI) def. Petrich, 6-2, 6-3.
