Costa Mesa 12, Laguna Beach 4LAGUNA BEACH — The Mustangs exploded for 10 runs in the final three innings of their Orange Coast League game Friday.

Costa Mesa (8-4, 3-1 in league) was down 4-2 in the fifth before John Rybarczyk’s two-run home run tied the score. Matt Wedgeworth pitched a scoreless three innings in relief to improve to 3-0.

Gabe Sanchez was three for five with two RBIs and two stolen bases for Mesa, and Matt Pisarski also had two RBIs. Garrick Williams, Cody Waldron and Miguel Molina each added two hits.

Laguna Beach fell to 5-6, 1-3 in league.

Costa Mesa plays host to Calvary Chapel on Tuesday in a battle for first place. Both teams enter the game 3-1 in league.

Calvary Chapel 4, Estancia 3COSTA MESA — Estancia couldn’t keep leads of 2-0 and 3-1 in an Orange Coast League game Friday at Orange Coast College.

Tim Worley was two for two with two RBIs for Estancia (5-7, 1-3 in league), and Trevor McDonald and Blake Pinto both added two hits.

Calvary Chapel (10-2, 3-1) scored three times in the bottom of the fifth, with Vinnie Valdez hitting a two-run single. But, Estancia Coach C.K. Green said he was happy with the progress after Calvary no-hit Estancia, 16-0, on March 20 in the league opener.

“The guys did a great job and battled,” Green said. “We could have had them.”

Estancia plays host to Laguna Beach on Tuesday.

Marina 7, Newport Harbor 1NEWPORT BEACH — Senior Brice Stillman was two for three with a run and a double, but the Tars lost a Sunset League game Friday at Newport Harbor High.

Senior P.J. Errington added a double for Newport Harbor (3-9, 1-4 in league), which Coach Evan Chalmers said committed three crucial errors.

“They managed to manufacture some runs because of our mistakes,” Chalmers said. “Offensively, we hit the ball hard but it didn’t drop for us.”

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Newport Harbor def.FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Weston Dunlap had 24 kills, six blocks and one ace to help lead the Sailors to a 20-25, 25-21, 25-17, 22-25, 15-12 Sunset League victory Friday.

Fountain Valley

Tucker Peluses added 18 kills, two blocks and five digs, Mark Liebermann had 10 kills, while Andrew Kaban had eight digs.

JB Green had five kills, but sprained his ankle down in the fourth game. Boyd Grubbs came in and played well, Newport Harbor Coach Dan Glenn said. Darren Leggett contributed 62 assists for the Sailors (11-7, 2-0 in league).

Newport Harbor plays host to Esperanza on Tuesday.

Corona del Mar def. Laguna HillsLAGUNA HILLS — Senior Blaine Nielson had a team-high 11 kills in the Sea Kings’ 25-17, 25-13, 24-26, 25-5 Pacific Coast League win Friday.

Brad McCoy had 10 kills and Gus Ellis added eight kills and four blocks for CdM (18-1, 2-0 in league), ranked No. 1 in CIF Southern Section Division II.

Dylan Davis had seven kills for CdM, and Phil Bannan dished out 35 assists.

The Sea Kings play host to Irvine on Tuesday.

Calvary Chapel def. EstanciaCOSTA MESA -- Kyle Prevel recorded seven kills and Bradley Reitler added six kills for the Eagles, but it wasn’t enough as Calvary Chapel won the Orange Coast League opener, 25-16, 25-16, 25-21, Friday.

Barry Fryslie had 11 assists for Estancia (3-9, 0-1).

BOYS’ LACROSSE

Newport Harbor 11, Marina 2NEWPORT BEACH — Zach Gagnon scored four goals to help lead the Sailors to a Sunset League win Friday.

Zach Gagnon added four goals, Tommy Hanrahan scored three goals and Ryan Hanrahan contributed two goals and two assists for Newport Harbor (4-3, 4-1 in league).

Sailors’ goalie Ronnie Dunmore consistently started several fast breaks.

BOYS’ GOLF

Corona del Mar 198, Irvine 215NEWPORT BEACH — David Su reclaimed his top spot among the Sea Kings with an even-par 35 in the Pacific Coast League victory Thursday at Newport Beach Country Club.

Taylor Keddington (38), Camden Nicholson (40), Josh Starnes (40) and Alex Ludlow (45) also scored for Corona del Mar (5-6, 3-1 in league).

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Corona del Mar 9,CORONA DEL MAR — Sophomore Adriane Knezevic’s five goals helped the Sea Kings sweep the Battle of the Bay Thursday.

Newport Harbor 4

Freshman goalkeeper Zoe Salaam, junior Alex Hoover and junior Lisa Weglart played strong defense for Corona del Mar (6-4, 4-3 in league).
