Her volunteer positions include service as the co-president of the Laguna Outreach for Community Arts, chair for the first two years of the Laguna Beach Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society, and trustee for the Laguna Beach Playhouse. The Morris family resides in Laguna Beach where they also own a business, J.M. Morris Construction.

Morris will immediately initiate corporate contacts throughout Orange County on behalf of Habitat for Humanity of Orange County.

Habitat for Humanity of Orange County is dedicated to ending substandard housing and building strong communities in Orange County. Habitat uses non-government donations of funding, materials, professional services and volunteer labor to build homes which are sold to qualified low-income families for a 1% down payment, closing costs, and a zero-interest mortgage.

Habitat families contribute 500 hours of “sweat equity” to the program by building their own home, helping another family build a home, or working in some other area of the Habitat organization.

Habitat for Humanity families and volunteers have built 122 homes in Orange County since 1988.

Law student sends proposal in a bottle

Alan M. Smith of Laguna Beach came up with an unusual way to pop the question to his longtime girlfriend and fellow law student Amy A. Colon.

Smith and Colon, both 27, went to Maui in March after taking their bar exams. On March 12, the couple went for a walk on Wailea beach, and Colon found a bottle.

The bottle contained a message — a piece of paper with four words, “Will you marry me?”

The couple has not decided on a date and location for the wedding. Colon, who is from Hollywood, will relocate to Laguna Beach, where she plans to practice law.

Smith is with the District Attorney’s office in Riverside.
