Fury holds off Big Bang

The Fury of Region 55 picked up its first win of the young 2007 spring select soccer season as they defeated Big Bang (Region 117), 2-1, in AYSO girls’ Under-14 Division action.

Neither team was able to score in the first half but the third quarter belonged to the Fury. Sally Calle scored on a free kick and later assisted a goal by Melissa Cooley to give their team a 2-0 lead.

Goalie Jessica Knox made three saves in the final five minutes to protect the lead.

Sydney Dutra, Kendra Harrison and Whitney Palmer led the defense, fullbacks Niki Geiger, Brittany Glassburner, Briana Montgomery and Paulina Vo withstood a flurry of offensive challenges by Big Bang in the first half and aggressive play by forwards Lindsay Conlisk, Kyleigh Kesler and McKenna Richards contributed to the victory.

In other action

Fury 0, Blackie Chans 0

Fury dominated the action but had to settle for a tie against the Blackie Chans from Region 56.

Fury forwards Lindsay Conlisk, Niki Geiger, Kyleigh Kesler and Kelsey Pryor continually applied offensive pressure, midfielders Sydney Dutra, Kendra Harrison, McKenna Richards and Jessica Epperson turned in strong performances and the defensive play of Whitney Palmer, Briana Montgomery and Paulina Vo helped keep the Blackie Chans scoreless.

Mutiny 3, Blue Torch 0

Mutiny took a 2-0 halftime lead and went on to defeat the Blue Torch out of Region 143.

A strong kick from midfield by Mutiny defender Katie Gainous found its way to the Blue Torch goal where teammate Dana Conlisk took the loose ball and sent a pass to Caroline Fowler for the first goal of the game.

Midfielders Nicole Gonzalez, and Cassidy Novkov kept the ball on the Mutiny side of the field for most of the first half which ended with Mutiny forward Grace Khoury scoring on a breakaway.

The Blue Torch offense dominated the third quarter but each of their three shots on goal were turned away by Mutiny goalie Ariel Thelander.

McKenna Neal lofted a shot into the top of the net to complete the scoring.
