Big push breaks match

The Avalanche broke open a tight Lemieux Division match against the Rampage by scoring four goals in the final period to pull away to a 7-1 victory in division championship playoff action at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach.

Jimmy Hocker, Craig Landon, Andrew Wade and Casey Childers posted goals in a third period where the Avalanche outscored the Rampage, 4-0.

Childers finished with a match-high three goals. Joel Dapello also scored. Childers, Wade and Ben Piontkowski each had two assists and Hocker and Dapello each had one.

Andrew Skowron recorded 19 saves.

Richard Killian scored off an assist from Kevin Gast to account for the Rampage offense and Matthew Case had 37 saves.

In other division championship finals:

Patrick Division

Thunder 5, Velcro 2

The Thunder scored three goals in the final period to break a tie and claim the division title.

David Schenker, who scored three goals overall, netted two of those goals in the decisive third period. Jacob Gonzales scored the third goal of the period.

Tov Johnson began the scoring for the Thunder with a first-period goal, Schenker, Gonzales, Johnson and Daniel Reed each had an assist and David Mastro had 36 saves.

Zachary Jezulin and Daniel Lewis both scored for the Velcro, Ellis Weaver and Grant Murchison were credited with assists and Jake Porter had 24 saves.

Wales Division

Bullfrogs 4, Spartans 2

The Bullfrogs scored the final two goals of the match to take the crown.

Trevor Millikan scored twice, Jadin Press and Garrett Cook each scored once, Alex McCabe had three assists and Alex Cook had one assist.

Tyler Allen finished with 23 saves.

Christopher Pichedwatana had a goal and assist, Ashley Woody scored once, Scott Parkin had an assist and Johnny Cao recorded 36 saves for the Spartans.

Jr. High Division

Dwyer 6, Valley Christian 5

The Dwyer Oilers led from start to finish in defeating Valley Christian in the final.

Garrett Haar scored a match-best three goals and also had two assists for the Oilers. Alex Kowalski had a goal and assist, Zach Gillespie scored once and Dallas Heyden and Davis Mastro each had an assist.

Joshua Fowler had 25 saves.

For Valley Christian, Aaron Caro scored twice and added two assists, Kyle Martin scored twice, Jared Novakovich had a goal and Timothy Francis finished with 26 assists.
