Corona del Mar High track coach Bill Sumner has been named Eastbay Coach of the Week, a national honor chosen by the editors of running website dyestat.com.

The Corona del Mar teams guided by Sumner, who has coached the Sea King boys’ and girls’ cross country and track and field programs for 25 years, have won seven CIF State championships and 13 CIF Southern Section titles.

Sumner was given the national honor following the Arcadia Invitational on April 7, when the Sea Kings girls’ distance medley relay team of Alison Damon, Claire Schmidt, Hilary May and Shelby Buckley won the event in 11 minutes, 41.28 seconds. It was Corona del Mar’s third straight year winning the event at the prestigious meet.
